Prepare for the Executive Assessment (EA)
Are you a busy professional looking to apply to an Executive MBA (EMBA) or business master’s program? The Executive Assessment (EA) is the smart, flexible alternative to the GMAT Focus or vocabulary-biased GRE. Designed by GMAC, the same organization that runs the GMAT Focus, the EA is shorter, more practical, and better suited for busy professionals.

Executive Assessment (EA)
If you’re looking for a test that measures your real-world reasoning, critical thinking, and business math skills — without requiring many months of study — the EA is the right choice. This exam is accepted not only by top business schools worldwide, but also by an increasing number of renowned businesses programs, and gives admissions teams a clear view of your readiness for graduate business studies.
So:
- What does the EA test?
- How is the exam structured?
- What skills will you need to develop for each section?
- How will this EA preparation course help you succeed on test day?
What Is the Executive Assessment?
The Executive Assessment (EA) is a 90-minute computer-based test that includes three sections:
- Integrated Reasoning
- Verbal Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning
It tests your ability to reason through problems, understand arguments, and work with data — skills that matter in business school and in your career.
Unlike the new GMAT Focus Edition, the EA is more similar in format to the older version of the GMAT, making it more familiar for many test takers. It also has fewer questions than the GMAT Focus & GRE, is less math-heavy than the GMAT Focus, and requires no essay writing unlike the GRE.
EA Format and Scoring
The EA is made up of 40 questions divided across three sections. Each section is scored from 0 to 20, and your total score ranges from 100 to 200. There is no penalty for wrong answers.
Section Overview:
Section | Questions | Time | Skills Tested |
Integrated reasoning | 12 | 30 minutes | Data Interpretation, Decision-making |
Verbal Reasoning | 14 | 30 minutes | Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning |
Quantitative Reasoning | 14 | 30 minutes | Problem Solving, Data Sufficiency |
Important: All three sections are equally weighted and count toward your total score. You typically must perform well in each section to achieve a strong overall result.
Section 1: Integrated Reasoning
The Integrated Reasoning section tests how well you work with data in charts, tables, and visual formats. While this section is shorter and often less intimidating, it still counts equally toward your final score and must not be ignored.
Skills Developed:
- Reading data from multiple sources
- Making decisions based on numbers, graphs, and tables
- Combining information from different formats
- Applying logic to solve two-part problems
Course Goals:
You’ll learn how to approach tables, visuals, and multi-part questions with simple strategies. I teach students to identify what’s important in each problem and avoid distractions. For professionals who deal with data regularly, this section can become a scoring strength.
Section 2: Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning section tests your ability to understand written material and evaluate logical arguments. It’s ideal for business professionals who need to read reports, analyze claims, and communicate ideas clearly.
Question Types:
- Reading Comprehension – Answer questions based on short business-focused passages.
- Critical Reasoning – Analyze arguments, find assumptions, strengthen or weaken logic.
Note: There is no Sentence Correction in the EA (unlike the old GMAT)—this section focuses on logic and reading, not grammar rules.
Skills Developed:
- Reading for main ideas, purpose, scope and tone
- Identifying conclusions, evidence, and assumptions
- Recognizing logical fallacies and flaws
- Evaluating business-related arguments quickly
Course Goals:
If English is not your first language, this section can be challenging. I provide targeted support to help you improve your reading skills, note-taking skills and logical analysis. We will practice real EA-style questions, focusing on how to quickly understand complex texts and eliminate wrong answer choices with confidence – through an effective POE (process of elimination).
Section 3: Quantitative Reasoning
The Quantitative Reasoning section tests your ability to solve high school-level math problems and evaluate data. It doesn’t require advanced math like calculus, but it does demand logical thinking and careful reading.
Question Types:
- Problem Solving – Use arithmetic, algebra, percentages, ratios, and statistics to find solutions.
- Data Sufficiency – Decide whether you have enough information in a question stem and 2 additional statements to answer a question, without doing full calculations.
Skills Developed:
- Translating real-world problems into equations
- Understanding number properties and relationships
- Making efficient decisions under time pressure
- Evaluating how much data is needed to solve a problem
Course Goals:
Many students haven’t used math in years. This EA Quant course reviews all the essential math topics in a clear, step-by-step way, according to your strengths and weaknesses. You’ll learn how to spot common patterns, avoid traps, and use smart techniques to save time and reduce stress and unnecessary mistakes.
Scoring Summary
Your total EA score is calculated by adding the scores from all three sections. Each section is scored from 0–20, and your total score ranges from 100 to 200. The average EA score across test takers is around 150–155, and top schools may expect a score above 160.
Section | Score Range |
Integrated reasoning | 0-20 |
Verbal Reasoning | 0-20 |
Quantitative Reasoning | 0-20 |
Total Score | 100-200 |
Because all three sections carry equal weight, balanced preparation is important. Scoring high in only one section won’t guarantee a strong total result.
